Scone Palace launches spooky story competition for Halloween

Scone Palace has launched a Halloween competition to find a young writer with a terrifying tale to tell.

The historic visitor attraction - no stranger to its own ghostly tales - is looking for children aged 9 to 12 to enter the Halloween short story competition. It launches as Scone Palace prepares for its second annual Spirits of Scone event, which takes place over six nights this Halloween.

Scone Palace is asking young writers to pen a scary tale of no more than 500 words, which can be based on real history, folklore or just their imagination. The winner will receive a visit to this year's Spirits of Scone event, a family season pass for 2018, and their story published online. They will also get the chance to read out their story in the Palace's chapel as part of Spirits of Scone, plus do their own personal video review of the event.

The crowning place of the Kings of Scots will be transformed into a horrorscape for Spirits of Scone, which runs every evening from October 26th to October 31st. The event offers a thrilling illuminated tour around the grounds, when some gruesome characters inspired by local folklore will be brought back to life.

Margo Baird, Marketing Manager for Scone Palace, said:

"We're thrilled to be launching this short story competition. Our Spirits of Scone event is based on local folklore and history and we hope this competition will get kids into the ‘spirit' of the occasion and in the mood for Halloween.

"We're looking for just the right story to grab us - a combination of spine-tingling and page-turning. We want to hear from anyone who's a whizz with words and has a ghoulish tale to tell."

The competition is open to children aged 9 to 12 (P4 to P7). Email your entry to halloweenshortstory@volpa.co.uk stating your name, age and a contact email and phone number by Monday October 16th 2017.
