RRS Discovery, the historic Antarctic exploration ship, will host a VIP visit from U.S. space agency NASA this week.

Kevin Mellett, an engineer with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration who counts the Space Shuttle among his projects, will visit Discovery and its sister attraction, social history museum and former jute mill Verdant Works, on Friday 3rd November.

Another stop-off on Kevin’s visit will be St Joseph’s RC Primary School in Dundee, where he will share stories of space exploration and his experiences working at Kennedy Space Center and Johnson Space Center in the USA with the school children.

Mark Munsie, Operations Director of Dundee Heritage Trust, said:

“We very much look forward to hosting Kevin Mellett along with Susan Wilson, Principal Officer US Consulate General in Edinburgh. Both Discovery and Verdant Works are landmarks in the City of Discovery and places where technology and exploration are a major part of the narrative. We think it’s fitting that we get to share our tales with such a prominent organisation as NASA.”
