Community groups from across the North East of Scotland are being invited to showcase their work at an event next month hosted by an award-winning social firm.

The Scarf Community Group Celebration, hosted by Aberdeen-based Scarf, will be held on Monday, April 16 at Aberdeen Science Centre and is open to any community group in Aberdeen City, Aberdeenshire, Moray, Angus, Dundee or Perth and Kinross.

Attendees will hear from previous recipients of grants from the Scottish Government’s Climate Challenge Fund as well as organisations which have grown into successful operations despite the economic environment which continues to be challenging.

Information will be also be available on funding streams open to community groups, as well as advice and support from organisations including Scarf, Home Energy Scotland, Resource Efficient Scotland and Local Energy Scotland.

Thane Lawrie, Chief Executive of Scarf, said: “We are extremely proud to be able to support so many of our fantastic local community groups though the services we provide, such as delivering Home Energy Scotland in the North east and our own bespoke training services and I’m delighted to be able to bring so many of them together for this event.

“It is no secret that times are tough for small groups with limited budgets at the moment, however funding and support is available if organisations know where to look and we hope to be able to provide a signpost to this support while also celebrating the great work already being done in our local communities.”

Scarf has been based in Aberdeen since 1985 and was founded with the ultimate aim of tackling fuel poverty in the North-east of Scotland. It has grown to operate a second office in Dundee and employs more than 50 members of staff across a range of projects funded by Energy Saving Trust, local authorities and also its own commercial ventures, profits from which go back into Scarf’s efforts to tackle fuel poverty.

The Scarf Community Group Celebration is free to attend and light refreshments will be provided. Aberdeen Science Centre has its own off-street car park with an electric vehicle charging point.

Groups interested in attending should call Community Liaison Officer, Diane Alexander on 01224 213005 or visit the event page on www.facebook.com/ScarfScotland.
