10th May 2018

Local charity PAMIS (Promoting A More Inclusive Society) are inviting anyone who would like to know more about one of the most marginalised groups in our society, those with profound and multiple learning disabilities (PMLD), to drop in to the Central Library in the Wellgate Centre between 11am and 4pm on Thursday the 17th of May for Profound Impact day 2018. The charity will be showing their short film ‘Together, we have a Profound Impact’ (17 minutes) in the Dundee Central Library Cinema from 12noon till 2pm and then short film ‘On Richard’s Side’ will run from 2.45pm (22 minutes). Teas/coffees/refreshments will be served all day.

PAMIS is the only organisation that works across Scotland solely for people with PMLD and their family carers to ensure they have access to healthy, valued and included lives. This group are some of the most excluded people within our communities not least because of the complex healthcare needs they have. There are many people and organisations in Dundee striving to build and develop inclusive and accessible communities and services for all, including the new V&A Museum opening this year. Maureen Phillip, Senior Family Support Director at PAMIS, explained the objective of Profound Impact Day, “We want to bring together a diverse range of people together to hear about the real life issues facing the families we support and an opportunity to ask questions. By working together Dundee has the potential to be the most inclusive city in Scotland”.

Information about PMLD, and an art exhibition, will be displayed in the library foyer through out national Learning Disability week (14-20th May). It features striking images by photographer Gary Bottoms as well as stunning artwork by artists Erin Keogh and Sandra Duncan. ‘Voice and Visuals’ a display of creative poetry and art from family carers will also be on display.
