Chamber member Irene Duncan was delighted to receive a Woman of Inspiration award from the Association of Scottish Businesswomen at an event which was held in the Scottish Chambers, Strathclyde Business School, in Glasgow on Thursday 7th March. The timing was particularly relevant as it was the day before Women’s Day.

Irene was astonished to be nominated for this award. When she got the initial email she thought it must be a mistake! She was nominated by Sandra Burke, former CEO at the Chamber, for her voluntary work.  Irene’s the Senior Volunteer for the Prince’s Trust in Tayside and is Chair of Nurture Parents, a social enterprise in Dundee which supports pregnant women and parents of children up to three years of age.

Irene would encourage Chamber members to look at ways they can use their skills to help others, particularly young people.

“You hear so many negative stories about the younger generation, but that’s certainly not my experience.

“The young people I work with have so much talent, energy and enthusiasm. They’re very appreciative of the support I give them to make it possible for them to achieve their goals.

“I help them create business plans, meet with them regularly to keep them focused and I’m there to listen when they have any worries or concerns.

“As a member of the Chamber, I have an extensive network which enables me to put them in touch with people and businesses potentially able to support them which is fantastic.”
