A world-renowned TED speaker, whose talk has gathered over three million views, will return to Dundee next month to inspire local business people to unlock the potential of their communities.

Dr Ernesto Sirolli, a global practitioner of economic development and community advocate, will give a keynote speech at ‘The Enterprise Conversation’ at Apex City Quay Hotel and Spa on Monday 10 June 2019.  The event is organised and hosted by Cola 5by20 Dundee, a community empowerment model inspired  by Dr Sirolli’s teachings.

Established in 1985, Sirolli Institute works with non-profits, governments, corporations and community leaders across the world to capture the passion, intelligence and resourcefulness of their communities, and facilitate their most creative entrepreneurs.

Sirolli Institute trains and deploys facilitators to help clients find the resources and overcome the obstacles they need to start and expand robust businesses and make them thrive. Dr Sirolli and his teams of trainers have gone on to help unlock around 40,000 enterprises in 250 communities and 15 countries across the world. A deep faith in humanity, and the good fortune to meet entrepreneurs often in some of the most remote locations on earth, have given him unusual insights into what successful entrepreneurs need to succeed.  In 2012, Dr Sirolli gave a TED talk entitled “Shut Up and Listen” which went viral, with over 3.2 million downloads and translation into 35 languages.

At ‘The Enterprise Conversation’, Dr Sirolli will tell his story, inspiring delegates with his knowledge and understanding of Enterprise Facilitation, how it can benefit businesses, communities and the local economies.  He will then facilitate an activity showing how delegates can add value to their business or enterprise with the ‘Trinity of Management ®’, the theory that three personality types are required for a business to succeed, and one should not try to be the master of them all.

Dr Sirolli said, “I am looking forward to seeing old friends and meeting new entrepreneurs at Coca-Cola 5by20 Dundee. The future of every community lies in capturing the passion, energy and imagination of its own people.”

Launched in 2010, Coca-Cola 5by20 is a global initiative with one purpose – to enable the economic empowerment of five million women by 2020.  Run in over 60 countries around the world, Dundee is the only city in Western Europe to host the programme, founded by Angie Foreman in 2017.

In less than two years, the programme has supported 142 women, 80 of whom have launched their own business and 38 of whom continue to grow their business.  Furthermore, over 50 new jobs have been created, alongside over 30 volunteer opportunities.  There are currently 40 mentors, male and female, including entrepreneurs, consultants, academics and business people from a range of sectors.

‘The Enterprise Conversation’ is supported by key partners Social Enterprise Academy and Abertay University, and support sponsors Carnoustie Golf Links, Johnston Carmichael and University of Dundee School of Business. The event will be held at Apex Hotel and Spa, City Quay, Dundee from 9.30am until 4pm on Monday 10 June 2019.

Tickets, which include a two-course lunch, tea/coffee and delegate pack, cost £85 / table of eight  £600 (members of the Coca-Cola 5by20 Dundee programme - £45).  To book, visit  https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/the-enterprise-conversation-tickets-61695339421/amp

Ms Foreman, who will introduce Dr Sirolli, added, “We are absolutely thrilled to be bringing Dr Sirolli to Scotland and particularly to Dundee where we have concrete evidence of the value and tangible results of his beliefs. Our programme is all about empowering women, regardless of their background or socio-economic status, to take their dream and turn it into a reality. Although the women themselves are driving their own futures, we do this by harnessing the support and goodwill of the local business community which very much echoes Dr Sirolli’s principles.   We can guarantee an event which will inspire and motivate each and every delegate to take a closer look at their practices and change their business for the better.”
