Aberdeen’s brand new events venue announces naming rights partner

Scotland’s brand new events complex has revealed that DC Thomson Media, will be the venues naming rights partner. The new official name for the world class venue at The Event Complex Aberdeen (TECA) will be P&J Live.

DC Thomson Media, which owns The Press and Journal and Evening Express, has agreed a deal with the venue’s operator SMG Europe to become the inaugural naming-rights sponsor.

We look forward to a strong partnership and bringing P&J Live to life, delivering on a fantastic new venue for entertainment, conferencing and exhibitions for Aberdeen and the North East of Scotland.”

Opening this summer, the world-class facility is being delivered by Aberdeen City Council in partnership with Henry Boot Developments, with 48,000 square metres of multi-purpose event space including world-class conference and exhibition halls, a superior arena, spacious hospitality boxes and a contemporary restaurant.

Aberdeen City Council Co Leader councillor Douglas Lumsden said: “It is great that our multi-million-pound new venue has a naming rights partner in the form of one of the most well-known local media companies and they will play a big part in the future of the event complex.

“The P&J Live partnership will ensure the fantastic acts, conferences and events will be known throughout the north of Scotland and beyond which fits in with our Regional Economic Strategy with internationalisation at its heart.

“We want to attract major artists, conferences, associations and meetings to the north-east to ensure the area competes on a global scale and it will be incredible to watch how the P&J Live partnership will contribute towards that.”

The site is also extremely environmentally friendly boasting its own energy centre, which will use local renewable resources and advanced technologies to produce an energy eco-system.

P&J Live is located right next to Aberdeen International Airport, the UK’s most connected regional airport, just minutes from the city’s new western peripheral route, and in prime position for rail links between Aberdeen and the North of Scotland.

P&J Live offers a flexible and technologically advanced space, enabling the north-east to compete nationally and internationally for new events as well as broadening the appeal for the North East to business and leisure visitors from across the globe.

We can also announce P&J Live will be hosting a pre-opening event on Saturday 10August. Events already lined up for the impressive venue include Lewis Capaldi, Elton John, Russell Howard, Alice Cooper, Disney on Ice and Aberdeen Performance Car Show with more set to be announced. SPE Offshore Europe – which generates more than £53 million for the north-east across four days – will also be held at P&J Live in September, the complex’s first exhibition.
