Dundee Museum of Transport will host a fascinating talk this month on the history of local haulage firm P.S Ridgway by Don Ridgway. The talk will cover over 80 years of local transport history, focusing on the Ridgway family from 1935 when Don’s father, Philip Edward, came to Dundee. As Director of local firm J&E Transport, Philip Edward was an early pioneer of overnight transport services, specialising in the transportation of textiles from Yorkshire and Lancashire to Dundee and Perth until the late sixties.

The talk will cover the formation of P.S Ridgway in 1970, its subsidiary companies and the various accolades achieved including Scottish Haulier of the Year. Speaker, Don Ridgway, explains, “the talk will include a number of unseen photographs, many of vehicles and trailers in the J&E, Ridgway and our customers own livery, to chronologically detail the family business since the 1930s”.

Museum Manager Samantha Walker said, “The Museum is delighted to host this talk as it will be a real trip down memory lane for former employees and those working in the industry. We can’t thank Don enough for putting this talk together using his own personal collection of photographs”.

The talk will take place on Thursday 15th August, starting at 6pm. Entry is £5 per person (members free) and, due to limited capacity, pre-booking is essential by emailing info@dmoft.co.uk or by calling 01382 455196 and reserving a seat.

Dundee Museum of Transport
