Love Dundee Local Launches

Businesses in Dundee are being invited to join the new ‘Love Dundee Local’ service, which helps local companies to serve local people.

The service, website and mobile app have been developed by the Dundee and Angus Chamber of Commerce, Dundee City Council and key private sector providers to support businesses across sectors.

Local businesses, including shops, pubs, restaurants, bars, and independent drinks merchants have played a key role in their communities throughout the pandemic by safely providing food and drink, gifts, household goods, and other products to families, people on the shielding list and others.

These businesses are now being given the opportunity to join the ‘Love Dundee Local’ service to offer food, drinks and other products for collection or delivery, in a new way.

CEO of Dundee and Angus Chamber of Commerce, Alison Henderson said: “We’ve worked hard on developing this platform to bring businesses and the public together to ensure a strong local, independent marketplace.

“We’ve seen from examples elsewhere that this model can work wonders for local businesses and provide customers with their favourite products at the same time.

“The service is also cheaper than alternative platforms available and is being marketed locally through our existing network.

“Additionally, partaking businesses have the option of either delivery or click & collect to distribute their products to the public.”

City Development Convener, Councillor Mark Flynn said: “This is an exciting development that can provide local companies with an additional way of garnering business.

“I know how well local businesses have adapted during the challenging times of the pandemic and that this platform could provide a bit more stability to them through sustained orders, regardless of the level of safety measures required to stop the spread of the virus.

“I would encourage any businessowner in Dundee to consider signing up to the resource as a way to supplement their orders and increase their visibility to customers.”

Dundee City Council

Dundee draws skilled workers from a 60-minute catchment population of 640,000 and has a local population of over 140,000. The availability of a large pool of highly skilled labour is a key feature in the Dundee economy. Flexibility in the labour force is currently more prevalent in Dundee than in Scotland as a whole. All forms of labour market flexibility - part-time, temporary employment, self-employment and shift work - are widely operational within the city. Labour force stability in the city is excellent, enabling companies to plan with confidence. Labour turnover levels are less than 5% and absenteeism averages 2%.
