In Your Shoes - Matty Souter

Ryse SEO are a Web Development and Search Engine Optimisation Specialist from Blairgowrie. Our Director, Matty Souter's background is in Software Development and he previously completed his Computing Degree at Abertay University back in 2017. Matty saw a gap in the market for a company that could create beautiful websites with excellent SEO, so that businesses could get the traffic they deserved, and from here put his heart and soul into creating Ryse.

SEO is the key to allowing your business reach it's full potential and by combining this with our elegant and modern websites, we can provide our customers with the best possible chance of converting leads. We have worked with numerous customers over a variety of sectors such as hospitality, retail, property management and recreation. Ryse also have an amazing team of Graphic Designers and Content Writers ready to make your vision a reality.

Monday Motivation!

Monday often starts with a team meeting. We’re a workplace with flexible hours but all make room to check in on priority projects, who needs support, plan tasks and brainstorm.

It’s a great way to catch up and feel motivated for the week ahead.

We’re a small team consisting of an Operations Manager, Content Marketer and Web Designer & CEO (me!). With some team members working full time, others part-time and all three of us working remotely, it’s even more important to regularly check-in.

We communicate through Microsoft Teams and Whats App, and use Click-Up to schedule all our important tasks and keep on track. Especially crucial if we have a big website launch!

We encourage each other to take screen breaks and get some fresh air. Living in Blairgowrie we’re spoiled for beautiful walks. Although I must admit, I could sit at the computer for hours when I’m hyper focused!

Tuesday – out and about

Tuesday I’m out meeting a new client. This is one of my favourite parts of the job as I get to learn about other people’s passions and what makes their business tick. If I’m lucky I might get a free coffee or pastry!

In a job with a lot of screen time (and having started Ryse during the Covid pandemic) it’s refreshing to meet business owners in person. We also work with freelance graphic designers and photographers and often use the amazing Blairgowrie cafes as a meeting spot to get away from the screen and support local businesses.

Wakey Wakey – It’s Wednesday!

Up bleary-eyed and not so bushy tailed at the back of 5 for BNI Perth. BNI is a leading business networking and referral organisation. We meet every Wednesday at 6am in The Royal George Hotel, Perth. Typically, my three-year-old chooses Tuesday night to stay up all hours!

Revivified by coffee I share the Ryse team’s weekly wins and cheer on the achievements of other local businesses. The early rise is worth it to get a head start on the day and be inspired by other business owners’ success stories.

Thursday – Training Day

Towards the end of the week our focus turns to training staff. The SEO industry is fast-paced and ever changing, so we ensure our team has plenty opportunities for e-learning days to level-up their skills. The beauty of e-learning is that staff can pick a time when their concentration is at its peak. Everyone’s brain works differently, and we think acknowledging that makes for a happier, healthier team!

It’s important that everyone feels confident in their role and keeps growing their skills. If you don’t pause every now and then you might never have that ‘a-ha!’ moment that pivots your business in an unexpected and exciting direction.

Friday Fun

Friday is treat day! We usually celebrate the weekend with takeaway coffee (and maybe a treat or two) from a local business.

Friday mornings are for finishing up SEO audits for clients, implementing website fixes and setting up my calendar for the following week. I try to finish as much work as possible by early afternoon then take the rest of the day as fun family time with the kids.
