Overgate announces Eden Project Big Lunch

Overgate’s William Gardiner Square will host a summer garden party next month with the centre, along with a number of local partners, joining forces to stage the Eden Project Big Lunch.

Taking place on Sunday the 5th of June between 12pm and 3pm, the Eden Project Big Lunch is a thank you celebration for Dundee’s local communities and neighbours; a fun family gathering where everyone is welcome. Bonnie Dundee, Uppertunity, Freya’s Wish, CommuniTAY and The Launch Pad are all coming together to join Overgate for the occasion.

Uppertunity, the Dundee-based social enterprise supporting people with learning disabilities will be running a number of free craft activities. These include inviting the public to contribute to the design of a public artwork: attendees at the party will each be invited to design a square of fabric, with each square joined together and donated to the Eden Project in Dundee to commemorate the day. Visitors to the Uppertunity zone will also have the chance to create terrariums with plants and recycled jars. Complimentary nibbles will be provided by local social good café Serendipities around this area too.

Freya’s Wish, the charity named in memory of young Dundee girl Freya Skene, which helps low-income families create memories, will be providing free face painting and card readings, and The Launch Pad dance studio will be hosting a Dance Circle to encourage friend making as well as dance taster sessions to promote healthy activity and the classes they offer.

Also on the day, Bonnie Dundee, the voluntary group credited with much of the transformation of William Gardiner Square, will be running a Big Skip to encourage adults to take part for exercise, health, and well-being, as well as a Bug Hunt. The group will also offer a Seed Giveaway to get kids excited about gardening and nature.

Families are being encouraged to bring their own packed lunches and to enjoy the various spaces within William Gardiner Square. However, in the spirit of inclusivity, CommuniTAY will be offering 50 free packed lunches to ensure no family feels isolated from coming along.

Speaking about the event, Metta Ramsay, Community Manager of Overgate said:

“Overgate is delighted to be staging the Eden Project Big Lunch on the 5th of June in William Gardiner Square.

“The event will be a celebration for families in Dundee in partnership with the fantastic community groups at the heart of the city, and of course the exciting Eden Project.

“The Eden Project Big Lunch is free to attend and open to all, and will offer all-ages entertainment, treats and fun. We look forward to welcoming everyone to what will be an unmissable garden party within Overgate.”
