Prestigious Award for Children’s Residential care services

Millview Cottage has won the Outstanding Residential Care Service Award at the Scottish Social Services Awards.  

The awards celebrate individuals and teams who demonstrate best practice in the social service sectors and highlight commitment, innovative approaches, and raise the profile and value of the sector.  

Millview Cottage is residential home for children and young people in Dundee which provides individualised care and support in a warm and nurturing environment. 

The team of 17 staff who care for several young people who have all had trauma in their childhood. The staff aim to give them a sense of belonging, create trusting and consistent relationships, and give them structure and routine so that they can fully support them to reach their potential.

“Whilst we try and keep young people with their families, it is not always possible and it’s vital that when they come into a residential home they have the best care, and this award demonstrates our commitment to ensuring that this is the case. 

“This award highlights the nurturing and happy environment created by the team to enable our young people to grow. 

“I want to thank the staff that work at Millview Cottage for their hard work, this award is a testament to them and the great work they do.”

Dundee draws skilled workers from a 60-minute catchment population of 640,000 and has a local population of over 140,000. The availability of a large pool of highly skilled labour is a key feature in the Dundee economy. Flexibility in the labour force is currently more prevalent in Dundee than in Scotland as a whole. All forms of labour market flexibility - part-time, temporary employment, self-employment and shift work - are widely operational within the city. Labour force stability in the city is excellent, enabling companies to plan with confidence. Labour turnover levels are less than 5% and absenteeism averages 2%.
