Crowdfunding appeal leads to pro bono repair work for The Circle

The Circle, an award-winning social enterprise based in Dundee and Glasgow has seen crowdfunding success after launching an appeal to repair their accessible toilet at Dudhope Castle.

The organisation was forced to close off the only accessible toilet at their Dudhope Castle hub due to severe damage from a leak that was found in January this year. The Circle team sprang into action to raise the funds they needed to repair this by launching their crowdfunding campaign at the start of February.

The Circle successfully raised £5,770 with 62 supporters in 28 days. But the good news for The Circle does not end there.

As a result of publicising their appeal and reaching out to their networks, Dundee City Council put The Circle in touch with construction company, McLaughlin & Harvey who are currently working in the area at The James Hutton Institute. The organisation and its subcontractors – Prime Joinery Solutions Ltd, Emtec Building Services, Westend Flooring and Neville Lumb Bathrooms and Washrooms – offered to carry out the repairs at no cost to The Circle. These works have now begun, and the toilet will be opened again this week.

The funds that were raised by The Circle will be earmarked for additional repair works at Dudhope Castle to make the building safer and more accessible for their community.

The Circle’s Founder and CEO, Kirsty Thomson said: “We’re so grateful for the amazing generosity of our supporters and to McLaughlin & Harvey for offering to complete this work for us. It means so much that we’ll be able to reopen our accessible toilet and now do further work to make the building more accessible.”

Jane Elder, Responsible Business Manager at McLaughlin & Harvey said: “We are delighted to have been able to help The Circle. At McLaughlin & Harvey, we are actively committed to supporting communities with the greatest need through our You Matter Communities Scheme, embodying our values of care, commitment, and collaboration. The repairs to the accessible toilet will make a difference to the service users and the visitors at The Circle making their Dudhope Castle hub a more welcoming place for everyone.

We would like to thank our supply chain members for undertaking the work free of charge allowing The Circle to use the funds raised through their recent Crowdfunding to go towards other much-needed repairs.”

There are more details to come on the repair works and the reopening of The Circle’s accessible toilet at Dudhope Castle.
