ALTAR Group Named in the Top 100 Best Workplace in the UK

DUNDEE’S largest integrated creative agency, ALTAR Group was officially announced last night at the prestigious Best Workplaces Awards as the 52nd Best Workplace in the UK in the small organisation category.

ALTAR Group revealed they were the first business in Tayside to be awarded A Great Place to Work status in December last year. The Broughty Ferry-based agency achieved full marks across the majority of work culture and employee satisfaction metrics to earn the award. The impressive result saw them put forward for certification in the Top 100 Best Workplaces, ranking at the ceremony held at London’s Grosvenor House, hosted by Comedian Katherine Ryan.

There are 5.47 million small businesses in the UK.  Over 150,000 entered the small business category awards with ALTAR Group named 52nd in the Top 100.

ALTAR Group comprises three specialist agencies, Avian (branding and design), Blue2 (web design and digital development) and Ginger (PR and digital marketing),  employing over 30 people. Employee Owned since 2021, the agency has focused on improving their working environment both pre and post-Covid to become a leading light for business culture in their area.

Vicki Anderson, ALTAR Group Director of Finance and Operations, said: “Our focus has been on cultivating a workplace where every voice matters and where every individual is motivated to excel. Being acknowledged for this last year was a source of immense pride for everyone in the company. To now secure xx place in the small organisation category feels incredible as it affirms our commitment to growth and development, and our emphasis on fostering a team at the forefront of creativity.”

Nial Chapman, ALTAR Group Managing Director, said: “This achievement is testament to the part everyone plays at ALTAR. As co-owners, our employees play a key role with the organisation and have a valuable say in the direction the company takes.

“We’ve been using the feedback from our application to continue to improve and combining that information with input from our team has been extremely powerful.  We’ve had an incredible start to 2024, winning over half a million of new business and we are opening a Glasgow office in April.”

Great Place To Work® performed rigorous evaluations of hundreds of employee survey responses alongside Culture Audit™ submissions from leaders at each company to create the 2024 UK's Best Workplaces™ list. They then used these data insights to benchmark the effectiveness of companies' employee value propositions against the culture their employees actually experience. Only those businesses who achieve the highest scores after evaluation receive Best Workplaces™ status.

Benedict Gautrey, Managing Director of Great Place To Work® UK, said: “Year after year, it's truly inspiring to witness a growing number of organisations earn a spot on our UK’s Best Workplaces™ List, we’ve seen our client’s Trust Index scores increasing meaning the bar for being on this List is getting higher. This recognition is no mean feat and highlights companies across the UK that excel in fostering high levels of trust in leadership, instilling pride in their workforce, and cultivating strong camaraderie among colleagues. These crucial elements collectively contribute to creating workplaces where employees feel they can truly be themselves and thrive in a supportive environment. Congratulations to ALTAR Group for being part of our 2024 UK’s Best Workplaces™ List."

ALTAR Group Managing Director Nial Chapman added: “We’ve worked incredibly hard on creating a culture that inspires our people and drives ALTAR Group forward. If you have a happy workplace and care about your people, then you significantly increase your chances of operating a successful business.”
